Experimenting
Did you notice I changed the font and type size since my first post. This one looks pretty good. At least it's easier to read than the first one was. This blogging thing is still new to me but I like it. I like to chit-chat, so I can just ramble on about whatever is on my mind. So as I go along here, I'll probably talk about my boy (only child), my cats (I have three), my ex-husband (only one), work (ugh) and whatever else that's going on. I may get creative and start throwing in pictures of stuff. You never know what you'll find here!

Love to Cook
One of the things I really enjoy is cooking and trying out new recipes. I have a huge collection of recipes clipped out of magazines, from FoodTV, from cookbooks, etc. Someday, I'll get them organized! Every so often I'll go through them and decide to throw out ones that I know I'll never make. But then I find more new ones to take their place. Do you ever do that? We used to have a lot of pot luck lunches at work and it was fun to try something new to bring in. There are a lot of good cooks in our work group. One girl is from the Phillipines and she makes fillipino food for us. Sometimes she make egg rolls and brings in her deep fryer and does the cooking while she's working (she's quite talented). By the time she's fried enough egg rolls for 25 people, the office smells like a diner!

Work Woes
This has been a really beautiful summer here in Michigan. We've been enjoying a lot of sun and the temperatures haven't been too hot. I have worked for a staffing company for the last 10 years and the work we do is for Chrysler. For the last couple years, the economy here has been getting worse and worse. Last month we had a wage cut. That was the second one we had since 2002. With the 2 cuts, my salary dropped 22%. We just all hope our jobs will be safe. This is what's going on with most of the people in our area.

Hello
This is my first time doing this, so bear with me. My Artiax is a funny name isn't it? Artifax was the name of the business I had when my son was a baby and I was a stay-at-home mom. It was a fun little business - kind of a printing brokerage. I took orders from customers, did the typesetting and graphics, then shopped around for the best price from printing companies, and got the jobs done and delivered. When my son was 20 months old, I was offered a job at a contractor for the Big Three (I live in metropolitan Detroit) for a lot more money than I was making at home. So Artifax just sat there in my little basement office, gathering cobwebs. A year later I was laid off and Artifax came to life again for a couple years until I went to work full-time for a local printing broker, doing graphics and typesetting for them. Now My Artifax is all the artifacts of my life.
